Mr. Proper

Born in Colombia and raised in Broward, FL, Duvan, known artistically as Mr. Proper, is a techno DJ whose name embodies his approach — precise, intentional, and deeply rooted in the essence of proper techno. His sound is hypnotic, groove-driven, and minimal, guided by rhythm and atmosphere rather than excess. Each set is a refined journey through tension and release, designed to pull dancers into a meditative, collective flow.

 

A cornerstone of South Florida’s underground scene, Mr. Proper has spent years cultivating community through music. As a co-founder of Hidden Rhythm Society (HRS), he’s been instrumental in shaping Miami’s proper techno identity — hosting nights that celebrate deep, mental soundscapes and genuine connection on the dance floor. His philosophy is simple yet powerful: music first, always.

 

He also leads Do Not Face the DJ, a conceptual project that redefines the club experience by removing the focus from the performer and returning it to the music itself. This ethos reflects his belief in unity, where the DJ becomes part of the crowd rather than its centerpiece.

 

Further expanding his reach, Mr. Proper plays a key role in the Blackroom project, curating and hosting rooms that channel the raw, immersive energy of true underground techno. His vision and curation have become synonymous with quality and depth across Miami’s scene.

 

Continuing to innovate, he now performs hybrid DJ sets — integrating Traktor with drum machines to blend precise mixing and live spontaneity. The result is a fluid performance that bridges technical mastery with instinctive creativity.
